Great Decisions

GREAT DECISIONS is a global affairs discussion group that uses Foreign Policy Association “briefing books” as a guide to discussing major trends and issues in world affairs.  The eight essays in each book are used to present the basic facts that then support the discussion of a particular issue.

There are two separate discussion groups in the Reston-Herndon Area Branch.  One is based in Reston and meets at 7:00 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month at the Hunters Woods Community Center in Reston.  A new group has just been established that will begin meeting in September at 2:30 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month in the Cardinal Club House at Ashby Ponds (off Gloucester Road) in Ashburn.

The format for the two groups will be similar.  For each topic one member will be asked to volunteer to act as the discussion leader/facilitator.  We anticipate stimulating and informative discussions as members expand on the topic by bringing their own experiences and knowledge to the subject.  The Ashby group will begin each session with a complementary video that introduces the material.  Participants are urged to buy the briefing books and read the essays before each meeting.
